Heartfelt thanks to Phil’s family for choosing the DLM Music Trust as one of the charities for memorial donations. Phil was Dave’s uncle and godfather, and has always been a very generous supporter of the trust. He will be sorely missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Gone way too soon. RIP Phil 💔

Here is a video of the DLM percussion ensemble performing at the Community Music School Raleigh’s Winter Recital on December 13th, 2013. The ensemble did their own arrangement of carols, “Christmas Medley 13,” which was awesome!

Some of the percussion students attended CMS’ Summer Composition Camp, and produced an original piece entitled “Apple Blues” which unfortunately we didn’t get a recording of, but it received a rousing reception from the audience. Awesome job by all of the students, teachers, parents & CMS! We are so proud to support this worthwhile cause in David’s memory.

The Trust is a founding donor and in its second year of funding the music program at a small, isolated charter school on the northern Outer Banks called Waters Edge Village School (WEVS) in Corolla, NC. The school is located in an historic one room schoolhouse and is a free public school serving grades K-6. WEVS students perform at Christmas in the Whalehead Club.

David & Jo Marzetti – Raleigh, NC – March 2009

Josephine Palazzo Marzetti passed away on September 25, 2013 and her family has chosen the DLM Trust as the recipient of memorial contributions in her name. The Trust is deeply honored to be selected and as a teacher herself, and frequent donor, we think she would approve. Jo would have been 95 in December, and other than her failing eye sight, she was very healthy and active up until the end! The picture below of her in a wheelchair at the beach was taken the week before she passed. She had an ambitious bucket list, and managed to get through most all of it by her strength, faith, fortitude and love of life, friends and family. She was a friend and inspiration to all who crossed her path, and her smiling face and kind words will be missed by all. Rest in peace dear Jo!

Young Cardinals, the group formerly known as Sleep Control, that David poured his heart and soul into, needs your help to fund their debut album! In just a few days they have raised over $1500 of the $2300 needed to record and distribute their new album. They have set up a campaign on KickStarter to raise funds, and I know the band would really appreciate all the support they can get to help keep David’s dream alive!

Over the past year and a half we have been working hard to write and perfect a ton of new material. Some of you have had the opportunity to hear our new stuff live, but it’s time to get back in the studio and release it to everyone! We are confident that all of our new songs are light years above our old recordings and with the help of our friend and recording genius Tooch at Sound Write Recording Studios in Raleigh we know that you will all be as excited about the final product as we are. This next album is key in launching our upcoming tours and getting us to the next level. We can’t thank our fans, family and friends enough and look forward to bringing you some dirty, epic rock & roll!

You can check out the project here and make a donation if you’d like, or simply follow the progress. Listen to the Young Cardinals first EP on Sound Cloud

For those of you have not had the pleasure of knowing my friend, David Leighton Marzetti, he was the former, and extremely talented, drummer of Sleep Control (now known as Young Cardinals) and an all around incredible person. Dave was the kind of friend that I hope everyone gets the opportunity to have at some point in their life. For those of you who have had the opportunity to know Dave- you know that there just aren’t many people in this world with his heart, spirit and talent. In his memory, the David L. Marzetti Memorial Music Trust was created.

The David L. Marzetti Memorial Music Trust is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide musical instruments and lessons to children who would not otherwise be able to have them. The foundation is an annual sponsor of Raleigh’s Community Music School percussion program. Since 1994, Community Music School has provided high quality, professional music education to Wake County, NC children from economically disadvantaged situations. CMS provides weekly, private music instruction to students for just $1 a lesson. Research tells us that children who study music do better in school and in life, and students indicate that arts participation motivates them to stay in school. The skills gained through music instruction, including self-discipline and the ability to analyze, solve problems, communicate and work cooperatively, are vital for success in the 21st century workplace. In lieu of traditional birthday celebrations this year, I will be hosting a fundraising event at Spy Raleigh on Sunday, November 11th beginning at 2:00pm. There will be FREE food, booze, silent auction, raffle prizes and wonderful music from some of Raleigh’s most talented artists.

Spy will be donating 15% of all bar sales during the event directly back to the DLM Music Trust… so drink up! There is a suggested $10 donation at the door of which 100% will be donated.

You may make a donation or purchase tickets online at:
